The Grenfell Memorial Community Mosaic – Bloom – is a partnership between Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre and ACAVA. The mosaic, located at the foot of the tower, has become a central focal point for the North Kensington community to celebrate their strength, solidarity and spirit, whilst honouring the lives of those men, women and children lost in the tragedy. Hundreds of members of the local community have been engaged with this impactful project leaving an enduring legacy.
Throughout the 2020-21 period, the third phase of the project will see ACAVA facilitate workshops for North Kensington schools, as well as the groups whose sessions were suspended during lockdown. They will construct a further 15 mosaic leaves for the installation at the base of Grenfell Tower to be added on 14th of each month. Commencing in July 2019, there will be a total of 24 leaves, reflecting the 24 floors of the tower, sitting alongside the mosaic’s floral centrepiece.
Al Manaar and ACAVA will continue to offer paid part-time photography work placements for young adults to work alongside our commissioned photographer Zute Lightfoot. This unique opportunity will empower young people in developing their visual communication skills with experienced and expert support.
Al Manaar and ACAVA would like to thank the Kensington and Chelsea Foundation for their support.
The remaining open community sessions will be announced in due course – please follow @ACAVAFlourish on Twitter for announcements.
Proud to be working with the Kensington + Chelsea Foundation through their Grenfell Community Development Fund
