Local Conference Planned for Young People

London, UK – “No Limits” is the theme for a conference for young people to help them untap their potential and achieve their life and career ambitions. The conference was announced today by Cllr Marwan Elnaghi, Notting Dale Ward, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The free one-day event will be held on Saturday 29 June 2019 at the Tabernacle.

During the conference, workshops will be led by the National Careers Service and the National Apprenticeship Service, as well as Stage 3, a drama group that uses theatrical experience to generate discussion about such issues as inclusion and migration.

Along with the workshops, several organisations will be participating in an exhibition where young people can talk to careers advisors, learn about apprenticeship options, and access services available from other local organisations. Taking part in the exhibition are the Department for Work and Pensions, the National Careers Service, the National Apprenticeship Service, Barclays, the National Health Service, the Metropolitan Police, and other London-based organisations. According to Cllr Elnaghi, “The purpose of this event is to bring together young people from the Borough, mainly from the Notting Dale and North Kensington wards, to discuss issues important to them and to provide them with information about services and support to help them achieve their ambitions. Young people over the age of 18 are invited to attend, wherever they live in the Borough.”

“Our consultation in 2018 shows that this has been a particularly difficult time for young people in the Borough due to concerns about safety in housing, employment opportunities, education, social inclusion, and environmental issues, among others,” continued Cllr Elnaghi. “Bringing together young people provides an opportunity to listen to them about what is important from their own perspective, so that local services and initiatives may adapt as needed to provide tailored support.”

As well as support from the participating organisations, the conference has received a grant from the Festivals and Events Fund of the Westway Trust an organisation that has been supporting local charities and community groups since it was established in 1971. In awarding the grant, the Trust commented, “We believe that projects such as yours have the potential to make a real difference to the lives of local people.”
