Al-Manaar Trustees, Management, worshippers and service-users are very sorry to learn that Mr. David Campion has passed away of natural causes on 18th August 2020.
Mr. Campion was one of the founding fathers of the Al-Manaar: The Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, where he served as a Trustee representing the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC). He also served as RBKC Mayor – 1985-6 – in addition to his membership of numerous Council committees throughout his 50 years of service representing the Pembridge ward.
Al-Manaar’s Chairman Dr. Abdulkarim Khalil, said that “This is very sad news indeed, we lost a great community champion. He will be greatly missed at Al-Manaar”. Dr. Khalil added that Mr. David Campion “was involved with Al-Manaar through all stages of its development: from inception, to community mobilisation, to design, to construction and finally running. He contributed greatly to making Al Manaar an exemplary community hub in the Royal Borough”.
It is to be noted that Al-Manaar’s Trustees insisted on Mr. Campion to carry on as an honorary trustee after he retired as RBKC’s elected Councillor. He happily remained so until his last day.
Ms Tabassum Awan, one of Al-Manaar’s volunteers and professional advisers, who knew Mr. Campion closely, stated that “David Campion was wise, calming and beautifully natured. He was a wonderful neighbour and friend. I pray that he is resting in the most tranquil gardens of heaven”.
Al-Manaar’s CEO, Mr. Abdurahman Sayed, also expressed how “extremely indebted the community was to Mr. Campion’s contribution at every stage of Al Manaar’s development and also to his positive involvement in another important community initiative, the Morrocan Information & Advice Centre in North Kensington”.
Our heartfelt condolences go to Mr. Campion’s family, colleagues and friends. May he Rest in Peace.
